Some prominent Dos and Don'ts in Thailand

Some prominent Dos and Don'ts in Thailand

In order to refrain from ruffling any feathers whilst on your holiday of a lifetime here are a few social, religious and base sense dos and don'ts.

The Thai population are well known for their welcoming manner and following their examples of public etiquette can help make your time with them enjoyable and relaxed. Thais see the head as the most important part of the body, the temple if you will, and as such you should not touch whatever on the head. You should also make an exertion to keep your head lower than your elders, monks and priests. Obviously it is not all the time potential but manufacture the exertion to dip your head even if it doesn't make your lower than theirs is appreciated. The feet are the lowest part of your body and therefore it is disrespectful to point them at anyone, especially those older than you, monks, priests or any image of Buddha.

The Buddha is sacred in Thailand and there are many rules pertaining to your behaviour around it. Be respectful, do not pose in front of any statues, mock, deface or climb on them, as your disrespect will not go down well. Also, any images or statues of Buddha over five inches tall need an export permit, you can ask the shopkeeper whether they are willing to gain one for you or you can apply for one at the local Fine Arts Department. If you do not get the export permit your souvenir may be taken away from you at the airport.

If you are visiting a Buddhist temple there are a few things that you must take into account. Firstly dress respectively, this is a place of worship not just a traveler attraction. Cover up as much as you can and remove your shoes when entering the temple. Monks are not allowed to touch, be touched by or receive whatever directly from a woman so whatever must be handed to a man first or settled on a piece of cloth which the monk can then draw towards them.

The population of Thailand have a deep love and respect for their monarchy, especially their king. Any jokes or complaints about them could leave you in very hot water. Whenever the national anthem is played it is primary to stop what you are doing and stand until it is over. In the cinema a portrait of the king is shown and the national anthem played before the film, again it is thinkable, that you rise and stay standing until it finishes. If in doubt do as the Thai do.

There are also the clear don'ts such as dealing with drugs, accepting drinks or lifts from strangers and buying gems from stores without the Jewel Fest Club sign. Keep a smile on your face and a cool head and your holidays in Thailand will be simply stunning.

Bangkok Red Light District Guide - Where to Go and Where to Stay

Bangkok Thailand has the craziest red light districts in the whole of Southeast Asia. Millions of visitors from all over the world have experienced the people, sights and sounds that permeate throughout Bangkok. It's an indescribable feeling and you'll only know what I'm talking about as soon as your feet hits the surface pavement of the airport.

It's inevitable that most visitors who come to Bangkok are male. But because of the Thai people's laid back sensibilities they have no problems at all with gay or lesbian tourist who are now enjoying Bangkok's red light districts in droves.

Go To Thailand

The city of Bangkok has three inevitable red light districts settled relatively close to each other. These establishments sprang up and rapidly became popular while the early 1970's towards the end of the Vietnam war.

Bangkok Red Light District Guide - Where to Go and Where to Stay

The first and oldest red light district is found on the Sois (or "Street" to us foreigners) of Patpong 1 and Patpong 2. Patpong 1 being the more popular Soi because that's also where you find the Night Market. Personally if you find something you have to have then business agreement hard. Otherwise I'd save my money and shop at Chatuchak Weekend Market. Stuff sold at Patpong's Night store are just way expensive. Surrounding the Night store are the infamous go-go bars and ping pong sex shows that make Patpong so famous. The best hotels to stay in this area are the Montien Hotel, Silom Serene, Bally's Suite Silom and Siam patrimony Suites. None of these hotels are guest amiable however.

Go To Thailand

The next two red light districts are found running straight through Sukhumvit road. The names are Nana and Soi Cowboy. Nana intersects Sukhumvit road and after 7pm you'll find hordes of freelance prostitutes gathering surface the Nana Hotel parking lot at the entrance of Nana Entertainment Plaza. Nep is a 3 story building filled with the delights of sex and booze. without fail a must visit.

Soi Cowboy is the smallest red light district but it packs a punch with establishments such as Long Bar and Rawhide. Those two go-go bars have been nearby for a while and still going strong.

Now most tourist who travel to Bangkok will most likely plan on bringing a companion back to their rooms. If that's you, then you should book a hotel that is "Guest amiable Hotel". You may have heard of other terms such as girl amiable or no joiner fee hotels. Because if you don't stay in a guest amiable hotel, you will be expensed a minimum of 500Thb joiner fee by hotel management.

The majority of guest amiable hotels are found in Sukhumvit, conveniently between the red light districts of Nana and Soi Cowboy. Currently there are none in the Patpong area. However, taxis are cheap, so taking one back to your guest amiable hotel in Sukhumvit is without fail economy than paying the 500Thb joiner fee.
