Michael Learns To Rock (also known as MLTR) is a Danish soft rock band that performs songs in English. It was formed in 1988 and has sold over 9 million records worldwide, mainly in Asia. It has produced seven studio albums as well as live and "greatest hits" albums. In 1987, the singer-keyboardist Jascha Richter and drummer Kåre Wanscher were high school students in Aarhus, Denmark, when they saw guitarist Mikkel Lentz with his group the Rocking Studs and asked him to form a band. A year later Søren Madsen joined, playing bass. The group debuted in Aarhus in May 1988 and later entered the city's annual talent show. The band won and hurriedly had to come up with a name. In an interview Richter admitted that it was named after Michael Jackson: "Yeah, it was like Johnny Hates Jazz and Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Sure, I've regretted calling ourselves this many times since, but we were successful so quickly we had to stick with it and over time I got used to it." (Taipei Times, 06 07 2007) A member of the contest jury, JP Anderson, became the band's manager. MLTR played live but did not release its eponymous debut album, "Michael Learns to Rock," until September 1991. A single from the album, "The Actor," topped the Danish chart and also did well in Norway, Sweden, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. In 1993, MLTR released Colours which sold over 1 million records. The album included the singles "Sleeping Child," "25 Minutes" and "Out of the Blue." It also ...

Twin Crusade - Burma Video Clips. Duration : 17.57 Mins.

January 2000 We go in search of the baby faced and battle hardened child generals of the Karen guerrillas. Twins Luther and Johnny Htoo stand amidst their child fighters and make faces at the camera. Luther's eyes roll as he sucks on a fat cigarette, Johnny smiles and pokes out his tongue. Last month's hostage crisis in the Thai hospital at Ratchaburi brought the world's attention to the God's Army. These twelve-year-old twins hit the headlines as the masterminds behind this and an earlier hostage incident at the Burmese Embassy. New pictures and footage of the boys provides an eerie glimpse into their crusade. For their dedicated followers they are divinely inspired leaders with the protection of an invisible horde of Karen warriors. "When they were born the sound of crowds was heard... when people went to look there were no footprints," reports Sister Roberts, an American nun who has counselled and watched the boys for the last 3 years. The twins lead with the Bible, reciting their favourite passages as an ideological platform. When in battle they talk like adults and are deeply respected. But just how long can their rag-tag band of 200 youths survive the combined roth of the Thai and Burmese military? We reveal that the twins may have escaped a recent Burmese army assault although their current whereabouts is unknown. Produced by ABC Australia Distributed by Journeyman Pictures

Hazards of Mountain Climbing

While mountain climbing can be one of the most bright and bright sports, there are also many dangers complicated in mountain climbing which one should consider. To decrease the odds of falling victim to a damaging or fatal injury on the mountain, make sure that you are aware of all of the hazards and take thorough protection precautions. In this narrative we will look at some of the coarse dangers that one faces when climbing.

The most inevitable hazard that springs to mind when mental about mountain climbing is the danger of falling. Rough surfaces of exposed rock make it easy to break one's bones or even die right away from comparatively short falls. A mountain climber must continually be aware of the environment colse to him and make sure that his / her estimates of the impel and stability / firmness of the rock are correct. Rocks can be rotten and give way, crumbling when weight is applied to them. The speed with which weight is transferred from one point to an additional one is also important, as jerking motions are more likely to dislodge a hand hold or foot hold. Many climbers take benefit of multiple keep points to safe themselves in case one of their supports gives way. It is also wisest, in cases where vertical or near vertical ascents are being undertaken, to climb in a team. When climbing together, team members must all the time be aware of each other's positions, as they rely on each other for corporeal keep and for rescue if there is a sudden problem.

Go To Thailand

Another coarse danger for mountain climbers is that of avalanches. Avalanches are caused either by loose snow which accumulates as it rolls down the mountain, at last forming a large mass, or by a slab of snow which suddenly breaks free. Climbers need to be experienced with snow climbing techniques and pay close concentration to the up-to-date weather to know what level of danger they are facing from a potential avalanche. If there is a high risk of an avalanche due to the local conditions, the leader of a climb has to be prepared to turn back ' this can be difficult to do when great attempt has been put into reaching the higher parts of a mountain, and frustrating as well because without someone as a trigger the avalanche ordinarily doesn't happen, production it impossible to say either or not going back was necessary. Still, exercising caution when snow conditions are perilous is the only way to be safe. The thorough protection gear used for areas where avalanches may occur are an avalanche beacon, shovel and probe.

Hazards of Mountain Climbing

Finally weather is also a great danger, especially on the upper reaches of a mountain. The aggregate of cold, snowy weather, which may make it very difficult to see the area ahead of you, and the altitude, which makes it more difficult to breathe, make climbing to the summit of a tall mountain an ultimate challenge. Climbers must be sure to bring proper support, and to gauge the level of oxygen that they bring with them to remain safe.

Go To Thailand

Take all this into inventory and you can enjoy your climbing, and keep the risks to a minimum.

overview of Bangladesh Garment commerce

Agriculture, as the case in India, has been the backbone of economy and chief source of earnings for the citizen of Bangladesh, the country made of villages. Government wants to decrease poverty by getting highest productivity from agriculture and perform self-reliance in food production. Apart from agriculture, the country is much concerned about the increase of export division. Bangladesh have accelerated and changed her exports substantially from time to time. After Bangladesh came into being, jute and tea were the most export-oriented industries. But with the continual perils of flood, failing jute fibre prices and a critical decline in world demand, the role of the jute sector to the country's economy has deteriorated (Spinanger, 1986). After that, focus has been shifted to the function of production sector, especially in garment industry.

The garment business of Bangladesh has been the key export department and a main source of foreign transfer for the last 25 years. At present, the country generates about billion worth of products each year by exporting garment. The business provides employment to about 3 million workers of whom 90% are women. Two non-market elements have performed a vital function in confirming the garment industry's continual success; these elements are (a) quotas under Multi- Fibre Arrangement1 (Mfa) in the North American market and (b) special market entry to European markets. The whole policy is strongly linked with the trend of relocation of production.

Displacement of production in the Garment Industry

overview of Bangladesh Garment commerce

The global economy is now controlled by the transfer of production where firms of developed countries swing their concentration to developing countries. The new representation is centred on a core-periphery system of production, with a comparatively small centre of permanent employees dealing with finance, investigate and development, technological institution and modernisation and a periphery containing dependent elements of production procedure. Reducing costs and expanding production are the main causes for this disposition. They have discovered that the simplest way to undercharge is to move production to a country where labour charge and production costs are lower. Since developing nations provide areas that do not levy costs like environmental degeneration, this institution protects the developed countries against the issues of environment and law. The transfer of production to Third World has helped the expansion of economy of these nations and also speed up the economy of the developed nations.

Go To Thailand

Garment business is controlled by the transfer of production. The globalisation of garment production started earlier and has expanded more than that of any other factory. The fellowships have transferred their blue-collar production activities from high-wage areas to low-cost manufacturing regions in industrialising countries. The enhancement of communication system and networking has played a key role in this development. Export-oriented manufacturing has brought some good returns to the industrialising nations of Asia and Latin America since the 1960s. The first relocation of garment manufacturing took place from North America and Western Europe to Japan in the 1950s and the early 1960s. But while 1965 and 1983, Japan changed its concentration to more lucrative products like cars, stereos and computers and therefore, 400,000 workers were dismissed by Japanese textile and clothing industry. In impact, the second stock transfer of garment manufacturing was from Japan to the Asian Tigers - South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore in 1970s. But the tendency of transfer of manufacturing did not remain there. The rise in labour charge and activeness of trade unions were in proportion to the enhancement in economies of the Asian Tigers. The business witnessed a third transfer of manufacturing from 1980s to 1990s; from the Asian Tigers to other developing countries - Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and China in particular. The 1990s have been led by the final group of exporters together with Bangladesh, Srilanka, Pakistan and Vietnam. But China was leader in the current of the relocation as in less than ten years (after 1980s) China emerged from nowhere to become the world's major maker and exporter of clothing.

Bangladesh Garment Sector and Global Chain
The cause of this transfer can be clarified by the wage structure in the garment industry, all over the world. Apparel labour charge per hour (wages and fringe benefits, Us$) in Usa is 10.12 but it is only 0.30 in Bangladesh. This dissimilarity accelerated the world apparel exports from billion in 1965, with developing nations production up just 14 percent of the total, to 9 billion in 1991, with developing nations contributing 59 percent. In 1991 the estimate of workers in the ready-made garment business of Bangladesh was 582,000 and it grew up to 1,404,000 in 1998. In Usa, however, 1991-figure showed 1,106.0 thousand workers in the apparel sector and in 1998 it turned down to 765. 8 thousand.

The presented data reveals that the tendency of low labour charges is the key imagine for the transfer of garment manufacturing in Bangladesh. The institution initiated in late 1970s when the Asian Tiger nations were in quest of tactics to avoid the export quotas of Western countries. The garment units of Bangladesh are in general relying on the 'tiger' nations for raw materials. Mediators in Asian Tiger nations build an intermediary in the middle of the textile units in their home countries, where the spinning and weaving go on, and the Bangladeshi units where the cloth is cut, sewn, ironed and packed into cartons for export. The same representatives of tiger nations contemplate the market for Bangladesh in any nations of the North. Large retail trading fellowships settled in the United States and Western Europe give most orders for Bangladeshi garment products. fellowships like Marks and Spencers (Uk) and C&A (the Netherlands) control capital funds, in proportion to which the capital of Bangladeshi owners is patience. Shirts artificial in Bangladesh are sold in developed nations for five to ten times their imported price.

Collaboration of a native hidden garment industry, Desh Company, with a Korean company, Daewoo is an important instance of international garment chain that works as one of the grounds of the expansion of garment business in Bangladesh. Daewoo Corporation of South Korea, as part of its global policies, took interest in Bangladesh when the Chairman, Kim Woo-Choong, offered an aspiring joint venture to the Government of Bangladesh, which included the increase and process of tyre, leather goods, and cement and garment factories. The Desh-Daewoo alliance was decisive in terms of getting into the global apparel markets at critical juncture, when import reforming was going on in this market following the signing of Mfa in 1974. Daewoo, a South Korean important exporter of garments, was in crusade of opportunities in nations, which had hardly used their quotas. Due to the quota restriction for Korea after Mfa, the export of Daewoo became limited. Bangladesh as an Ldc got the chance to export without any constraint and for this cause Daewoo was concerned with the use of Bangladesh for their market. The purpose behind this need was that Bangladesh would rely on Daewoo for importing raw materials and at the same time Daewoo would get the market in Bangladesh. When the Chairman of Daewoo displayed interest in Bangladesh, the country's President put him in touch with chairman of Desh Company, an ex-civil servant who was seeking more entrepreneurial pursuits.

To fulfil this wish, Daewoo signed a collaboration compact with Desh Garment for five years. The compact also incorporated the fields of technical training, purchase of machinery and fabric, plant making ready and marketing in return for a specific marketing commission on all exports by Desh while the compact phase. Daewoo also imparted an exhaustive practical training of Desh employees in the working climate of a multinational company. Daewoo keenly helped Desh in buying machinery and fabrics. Some technicians of Daewoo arrived Bangladesh to design the plant for Desh. The end succeed of the relationship of Desh-Daewoo was important. In the first six years of its business, i.e. 1980/81-86/87, Desh export value increased at an each year median rate of 90%, reaching more than million in 1986/87.

It is claimed that the Desh-Daewoo alliance is a critical element for the increase and achievement of Bangladesh's entire garment export industry. After getting linked with Daewoo's brand names and marketing network, overseas buyers went on with buying garments from the corporation heedless of their origin. Out of the chance trainees most left Desh business at any times to erect their own competitive garment companies, worked as a way of appealing knowledge all through the whole garment sector.

It is critical to identify the outcomes of the process of appealing production from high pay to low pay nations for both developing and developed nations. It is a bare fact that most of the Third World nations are now on the way to industrialisation. In this procedure, workers are working under unfavourable working environment - minimal wages, unhealthy place of work, lack of security, no job guarantee, forced labour etc.

The route of globalisation is full of ups and downs for the developing nations. Relocations of comparatively mobile, blue-collar production from developed to developing nations, in some circumstances, can have troublesome effects on group life if - in the absence of productive planning and talks in the middle of international organisations and the government and/or organisations of the host nation - the transferred operation encourages urban-bound relocation and its span of stay is short. Other negative succeed is that the rise in employment and/or earnings is not foreseen, to be satisfactorily large and thorough to lessen inequality. In relationship with the negative results of relocation of manufacturing on employment in developed countries, we comprehend that in comparatively blue-collar industries, the growing imports from developing nations lead to distinct losses in employment. It is held that improvement of trade with the South was a critical imagine of the disindustrialisation of employment in the North over past few decades.

After all employees who are constantly working under unfavourable circumstances have to bear the brunt. Work is under-control over the Bangladesh garment sector. Appalling working climate has been brought to light in the Bangladesh garment industry.

A investigate reveals that 90 percent of the garment employees went through illness or disease while the month before the interviews. Headache, anaemia, fever, chest, stomach, eye and ear pain, cough and cold, diarrhoea, dysentery, urinary tract infection and reproductive condition problems were more coarse diseases. The garment factories gave bonus of distinct diseases to the employees for working. With a view to seeing out a link in the middle of these diseases and market threats, condition status of employees has been examined before and after coming in the garment work. At the end of examination, it was come out that about 75 percent of the garment workforce had sound condition before they entered the garment factory. The reasons of condition declines were market threats, unfavourable working environment, and want of staff facilities, inflexible terms and conditions of garment employment, workplace pressure, and low wages. distinct work-related threats and their influence on condition forced employees to leave the job after few months of joining the factory; the median distance of assistance was only 4 years.

The garment sector is disreputable for fires, which are said to have claimed over 200 lives in the past two years, though exact figures are tough to find. A shocking instance of absence of workplace safety was the fire in November 2000, in which almost 50 workers lost their lives in Narsingdi as exist doors were closed.

From the above pathology of working climate of garment sector, we can state that the working environment of most of the Third World nations, particularly Bangladesh remind us of earlier improvement of garment industries in the First World nations. The state of employment in many (not necessarily) textiles and clothing units in the developing nations take us back to those set up in the nineteenth century in Europe and North America. The mistreatment of garment employees in the birth duration of the improvement of Us garment factories reviewed above is more or less same as it seen now in the Bangladesh garment industry. Can we state that garment employees of the Third World nations living in the 21st century? Is it a return of the Sweatshop?

In a way, the Western fellowships are guilty of pitiable working climate in the garment sector. The developed nations want to make more behalf and therefore, force the developing nations to cut down the manufacturing cost. In order to survive in the competition, most of the developing nations select immoral practices. By introducing inflexible terms and conditions in the business, the global economy has left few alternatives for the developing nations.

Right Time to Make a Decision
There are two alternatives to tackle the challenge of the competitive world initiated by the continuous pressure of global garment chain. One can continue to exist in the competition by adopting time-honoured work systems or immoral practices. But it is uncertain how long they can continue to exist. In relationship with the garment business of Bangladesh, we can say that this is the right time to succeed a competitive policy, which improves quality. If the Mfa opportunities are eliminated, will it be feasible to keep the competitiveness through low-wage-female labour or through supplementary drop in female wages? possibly not. Since the labour charges are so minimal that with such wage, a employee is not able to assert even a family of two members. Enhancing the efficiency of female workers is the only explication to increased competition. Permissible education and acceptable training can help perform these distinct results. To rule the global market, Bangladesh has to come out of low wage and low production involved in the garment industry. Bangladesh can improve labour production through constant training, use of upgraded technology and great working environment. Bangladesh should plan a strategy intended for promoting skill development, speeding up technology transfer and Enhancing productivity height of the workers.

Another recipe is to adopt best system or ethical course. Those companies, which react to heightened competition by stressing quality, fast talk of the customers, fair practices for labourers should have the most innovative practices. We think that we are now living in the age of competition in producing improved potential over cost-reduction policy. The objective of change efforts at the workplace has been modified over the time - from production the job humane in the 1960s, to job delight and production in 1970s, to potential and competitiveness in the 1980s. It is critical for a business to pursue a competitive policy that improves quality, flexibility, innovation and customer care. If they rely on low costs by dropping labourers' wages and other services, they will be bereaved of labourers' dedication to work.

"Songkarn" - The Most illustrious Festival Of Thailand - The contact That You Will Never Forget

What does Songkarn means? How is it importance? You can find out the one of festival that you will never forget from this article.

Songkarn festival or water throwing festival is the long holiday for Thais and it is the one of the most prominent festival. The word "Songkarn" comes from Sanskrit language that means passing or approaching. This festival isn't only the funny celebrating but also the ceremony by Buddhism religion too. House will seem to be appreciated in this period, especially the old habitancy because their children will going back to their hometown and do greeting with their older relatives.

Go To Thailand

Songkarn duration can isolate into three days and each day has their own specific name and activities that are different. April 13th is called "Songkarn day", April 14th is called "Nao day" or the day on which the sun travels in the middle of Pieces and Arise marking the old Thai New Year's Eve and April 15th the last day of this festival is called "Thai New Year's Day".

For the Activities, there are many kind of playing. The one that is customary in worldwide is water throwing activity, this is the funniest performance at all in my opinion, habitancy will go to the uptown of their own city for playing throwing water and painting face by chalk powder to the others even they are stranger. This performance will make habitancy knows each other, sometimes getting a merge in this performance is possible.

Another customary performance that the one of Thai habitancy will do by basically day, is doing the good thing or getting merit by offering food to the monk but it is separate from the commonplace day because they will go to the temple and it will have many activities over there such as Pouring scented water over Buddha image, building the sand pagodas and Playing some Thai customary plays that won't be seen in commonplace day and there will have some free Thai food for share with habitancy who comes join this ceremony.

This is just example of Songkarn festival activity, there will have more over that you couldn't imagine. Episode 3 - In this video you will learn how to prepare an authentic Thai green chicken curry. (แกงเขียวหวานไก่ Gaeng khiao Waan Gai)Thai green curry is one of the popular ambassadors of Thai food in overseas restaurants. As such the dish has suffered modifications and abuses. This video demonstrates the authentic method of creating a flavorful curry dish from scratch. You can use a commercial curry paste if you can't find the time or the ingredients to make your own. However, the homemade version will be more fragrant and flavorful.Traditionally curry pastes are being made by pureeing all the ingredients using a pestle and mortar, starting with the hardest ingredient to the softer. The paste should be as fine as possible, eliminating all the textures of the raw ingredients preserving only their flavors. The end product should have a combined, full and rounded aroma.Green curry is also popular with fish dumplings and coconut sprouts instead of chicken, and is often served with white rice, white rice vermicelli noodles and boiled salted duck eggs.

Botanical Gardens of Northern Thailand (Part 2)

Botanical Gardens of Northern Thailand (Part 2)

Northern Thailand has many attractions that would be of interest to horticultural and botanical enthusiasts. Just face of Chiang Mai, Thailand's 2nd largest city and the gateway to the northern provinces, are two outstanding botanical gardens - Queen Sirikit Botanical garden and Bhubing Palace and Garden, one of the estates of the royal family. The best time to go is immediately after the end of the rainy season in early November, when many flowers are in bloom.

Queen Sirikit Botanical Garden

Go To Thailand

Located in Mae Sa Valley, a beloved mountain resort area just 45 minutes - 1 hour drive from Chiang Mai - Queen Sirikit Botanical garden at 960 hectares (2,372 acres) is by far the largest and most prominent Botanical garden in Thailand. If you're a botanical enthusiast, no trip to Thailand is faultless unless you program at last a day or two visiting this curious facility. As there is so much ground to cover here, I suggest you stay at one of the fine mountain lodges near the garden in Mae Sa Valley as opposed to staying in Chiang Mai.

Opened in 1993, this garden were created as a botanical explore town and for visitors who wanted learn more about the plants and flowers of Thailand. Believe me, Qsbg is huge. When I visited these gardens about 2 years ago, I did not have adequate time to wholly tour the property, maybe next time. There are a amount of curious botanical walking trails that crisscross and circle the hilly asset featuring prominent displays of tropical plants and flowers. One route will introduce you to Thai plants and local medicinal herbs, other route features climbers and vines. Or perhaps, you would like to take a hike to a small waterfall, on the way you'll pass by the Thai Rock garden. This trail ends up at the Thai Orchid Nursery, which is home to over 350 native orchid species. Although, I did not have adequate time to study any of these trails, I am told each trail takes 40-60 minutes to complete.

While I was there, I visited the glasshouse conservatory, which houses the rainforest exhibit. faultless with an electrically powered synthetic waterfall, this exhibit features many of the plants that thrive in the rainforest - gingers, anthuriums, ferns, cycads, impatiens, begonias and other species. There are a series of temperature-controlled greenhouses settled on the hillside, each featuring a distinct grouping or class of plants and flowers. One of the greenhouses features an remarkable collection of begonias; other one features mostly Thai medicinal plants and herbs. The most unusual and exotic plant that I encountered there was the Bat Plant (Tacca chantrieri), which is indigenous to Southeast Asia. The greenhouse exhibit featuring an eclectic collection of water lilies and lotuses was most impressive. Check out the stark discrepancy between the very unique and austere marble planters and the large black pots (see picture). Factoid - The water lotus is a sacred plant in the Buddhist religion.

Bhubing Palace and Gardens

Bhubing Palace and Garden is the winter abode for the Royal family. When her Royal Highness, Queen Sirikit, makes her seasonal visits to Northern Thailand to work on any amount of community projects, she all the time returns to Bhubing Place to rest up.

Introduction to Australian Visa in Thailand

Introduction to Australian Visa in Thailand

Australia and Thailand maintains a wholesome and polite association that is additional strengthened by the preparation of the Australian-Thailand found (Ati).

Australians are among Thailand's frequent visitors. Likewise, the estimate of Thais going to Australia continues to increase.

Go To Thailand

To regain permission to enter Australia, Thais must first file a formal visa application at the embassy. It must be remembered though that a visa does not all the time guarantee entry. Its approval or denial lies within the discretion of the consular officers. A visa plainly shows that the applicant has complied with all the documentary requirements.

There are different types of Australian visas in Thailand depending on the purpose of the travel.

Tourist visa

A favorite Australian Visa in Thailand, the traveler visa is additional subdivided into two categories: the subclass 676 and subclass 679.

Subclass 676 permits Thais to enter Australia for house and recreation visits. It is both a singular and multiple-entry visa that can be utilized for a year. If granted, its owner may engage in volunteer work and can even take short courses for 3 months.

Meanwhile, subclass 679 shares similar purposes with 676. The only divergence is that the entry of subclass 679 visa holders is supported by whether their relatives or house members who are Australian nationals or permanent residents. To ensure higher success rates, the sponsor must take full accountability for all the expenses incurred by the Thai visitor. The visa holders are neither permitted to work nor to extend their visas since it has a "No additional Stay" condition.

Prospective marriage visa (subclass 300)

This Australian Visa in Thailand is issued to Thai fiancés of Australians. Here, the incorporate is anticipated to get married within 9 months upon arrival in the country. This likewise serves as the gateway for Thai fiancés to regain the partner permanent visa.

Upon the issuance of this visa, the Thai partner is allowed to whether work or study, provided that the visa owner will not resort to government funds for support.

Partner permanent visa (subclass 100)

Evidently, this is the Australian counterpart of the Us and Uk spouse visa. Once the application is approved, the Thai spouse does not only receive residency rights. They are likewise permitted to work and gain access to communal services. This visa likewise allows its owner to qualify for Australian citizenship.

Food Of Northern Thailand

Food Of Northern Thailand

I moved half way around the world to Northern Thailand in order to eat better. You might say that I'm more than a diminutive curious in food.

I remember the food writer and Tv celebrity chef Jamie Oliver saying that he dreams about herbs. Surprisingly it is the only sensible and general sounding thing I have ever heard him say. It's not unusual for me to spend days or weeks mental about single recipes or foods, although I haven't yet dreamed about herbs...I'm sure though it's only a matter of time.

Go To Thailand

The foods available in Northern Thailand must rank surrounded by the most intelligent and extraordinary in the world. There are influences from throughout Asia together with China and India and the fragrant dishes of Malaysia, Indonesia, Lao, Vietnam and Southern Thailand (the old Siam). It's a giddy mixture and a life's work to get to know and understand them all...but I'm prepared to give it a go. It's a life changing contact in itself.

Part of the extraordinary food contact in Northern Thailand is the strong market culture. There are perfect fresh markets throughout this whole region that sell the freshest and best food in any place on the planet. Huge piles of mangoes, cabbages, chilies, coriander, strawberries, jack fruit, limes, lemon grass and every other fruit or vegetable you can think of fill the buzzing markets.

The part of the market that I frequent the most is the rice section. Back in the Uk rice is just something you buy and cook and don't think a great deal about. Here in Chiang Mai, the main city in Northern Thailand, rice is almost a revered commodity. There are endless types of rice available for sale whether piled high in big sacks, or already cooked in big steaming vats. My popular and probably the most popular in this part of Chiang Mai is locally grown sticky rice. I had sticky rice once in London in a Thai bistro and speedily wished I hadn't. It was a bit like eating glue. The sticky rice here is wholly different; it's warm and soft...more like fluffy mashed potatoes than rice. It's the kind of food that will all the time be eaten because, like mashed potatoes, it is so damn good.

So, once you have your warm sticky rice what next? There are different ways you can go from here. whether you could try some Thai soups or curries and dip the rice right into it, or you could spend in a tiny pot of spicy dry chili sauce called "Nam Prik Ta Dem" which is popular all over Thailand. Some population do eat the rice and the dry sauce as a meal in itself...it's the cheapest unblemished meal available at most markets. If however, you have a few baht left over (which I'm sure you might) you could think about getting something from the grilled section. Thai sausages are excellent, but vary enormously in spiciness. There are also grilled fish which range from the perfect and locally farmed Catfish to the costly Snake Head Fish with soft flaky flesh or perhaps you may prefer some chicken, or honey marinated pork satay, or deep fried vegetable tempura or land crab pate or any one of the most delicious and unusual foods in the world.

Today, when it's market time I'm heading for the fresh seafood section, and buy myself a big bag full of Tiger Prawns and perhaps some Soft Shell Crabs. I'll then trundle round to the fresh herb section and pick out some big bunches of Coriander, Lemon Grass, Basil and Spring Onions. I can't wait to get cooking with all these fresh flavors. I'm sure that if Jamie Oliver shopped down at my local market he'd find it difficult to work out the discrepancy between when he was dreaming about herbs and wide awake!

Enjoy Northern Thai food.

Of all the things we have tried in this world, there is one thing we have never given a chance. That one thing is peace. If we want to hope for something, maybe we could hope in our heart that peace will come in our life. The peace we are looking for is within. It is in the heart, waiting to be felt, and I can help you get in touch with it. It is not the world that needs peace; it is people. When people in the world are at peace within ...

Thailand Expat Life - Visa Run to Vientiane, Laos

A few days ago, I made my first visa run to Laos, by bus.

Normally I go to Singapore to get a 60-day tourist visa, but the last time I went, they refused to give me a 60-day visa because I have an open e-ticket back to Canada. They now want a confirmed ticket, and will not accept an open ticket. This is stupid, if you ask me. I told the lady at the front desk that if the violence in Bangkok gets bad, I can phone Air Canada and be on my way next day, so an open ticket is much great than a ticket for a singular date. No dice. So I had to fly back to Bangkok and got the usual 30-day entry at the airport. The whole trip cost me 18,000 baht, counting hotels, flights, meals, taxis, etc. What a waste.

Go To Thailand

I did a join of visa runs by bus to Cambodia, and find that a pain in the bum, since you only get 14 days and then have to do it again, and it costs 2000 baht each time.

Thailand Expat Life - Visa Run to Vientiane, Laos

So this time, I signed up for the bus to Vientiane.

Go To Thailand

I must say that the assistance by the visa run business was excellent; the bus (a 40-seater) was full, and it was the same comfortable bus they use for the Cambodia runs, with the same driver. The driver is relatively conservative, seems to be mindful of the fact he's got 40 farangs on board, and is as careful a driver as you would want.

The bus left Pb Tower on Sukhumvit Soi 71 exactly at 8:30Pm.

There was a pee break about an hour later at a assistance centre, and then an additional one 2 hours later, and so on, throughout the night. These gave the driver a chance to relax a bit, which I notion was a good idea.

Unfortunately, I have never been able to sleep on a bus or airplane, and this trip was no exception. While my seat mate happily snored away the night, I sat there bleary eyed, shifting in my seat periodically as my bum got sore. I appreciated the rest breaks as well.

A Dvd movie was played at the start of the trip, but after it finished, it was after 11Pm, so no more movies were shown.

We arrived at the border early, before 6:30. I watched the sun come up. We had to sit nearby for a while until the border office opened, and then one of the bus business ladies got all our passports processed. She had previously collected them on the bus.

After being stamped out of Thailand, we took 3 mini-buses (vans) across the bridge (Mekong River) into Laos, where again we waited while the lady got our passports processed by Lao immigration. In less than an hour, we took the mini-buses into Vientiane, and arrived at the road for the Thai Embassy about 7:30 or 7:40 Am. There were already at least 200 citizen lined up along the sidewalk, and it was hot.

The embassy gates opened about 8:15 Am, and we all filed into the embassy compound. There was a ticket engine at the front, and we joined the queue.

However, our erstwhile visa run lady ushered us up the stairs into an air-conditioned area and handed out low-numbered tickets from the machine. Our numbers started nearby 95, whereas the citizen at the ticket engine were getting tickets numbered over 350. So I conjecture she had some experience in Vientiane who stood at the starting of the line at the gates at an early hour, and then passed the tickets to her when she arrived an hour or more later.

The ticket numbers were called out over the public address theory in both Thai and English, and repeated once: "Ticket number 37, please proceed to counter number 2".

I soon noticed that there was no pause in the number callout, the announcements came non-stop, and soon reached the 80s. We all rushed downstairs to the counters and were there when our numbers came up. But the numbers just kept on rolling by. Our lady collected our passports and tickets, and lined them all up along the counter, and then told us to go wait in the other building.

Over there, we found there were four more counters, numbered 3 through 6, but only one, counter 4, was active, and there were at least 100 citizen waiting, sitting on chairs. This waiting room was also air conditioned.

Again, the numbers were called out, but this time there were big gaps between, and there was a big pause after each number was called. When a number was called, a someone went up to counter 4, received a paper receipt, and then exited stage left.

After every batch of 10 or 12 numbers, there was a 5 or 6 small delay. That was when I noticed that the Thai lady behind the counter was printing out and then separating the receipts. Clearly, the passports and applications were being processed in the other building, entered into a computer, and then the receipt was printed in this building at counter 4.

After about 30 or 40 minutes, my number was called; I went up to the counter, got my receipt and exited. The guy next to me had a lower number, but his number was not called, so he got a small upset and went up to the counter, where the lady told him to wait.

I went out the exit, and there was my visa run lady collecting the receipts, and then ushering us over to one of the vans. My receipt had shown "60 days duplicate entry tourist visa" and "fee: ", so I was happy.

The van took us to a local bistro where we had a Thai/Lao food breakfast or brunch of fried rice and whatever. This was free, paid for by the visa run company, but soft drinks were 20 baht extra.

In Laos, you can use Lao kip, Thai baht, and Us dollars interchangeably. If you pay in Thai baht, you get change in Thai baht. If you pay in Us dollars, you get change in Lao kip, which, like Cambodian currency, has very high denominations and no value. A Pepsi was 20 baht, which was reasonable, but no diet drinks were available. By the way, Atm machines in Laos only dispense Lao kip.

After brunch, we were taken by van to the hotel, which turned out to be quite acceptable, maybe 2.5 stars. There was no pool, just a room, but it was a big room, inexpressive bathroom, and cable or satellite Tv with many Thai, a few Lao, and some movie channels, along with Hbo and Star Movies.

The bathroom was typical Thai-style, with no shower stall or bath, and a shower head on the wall. There was a flash water heater which worked, and the toilet worked. The towels were large, red, fluffy, and obviously new.

I had paid an extra 200 baht at the front desk for a inexpressive room. The visa run fee of 5000 baht includes a shared room (2 per room). The fee will growth to 6000 baht after the free tourist visa promotion ends June 5.

In bed by 1Pm in the afternoon, I slept for several hours, got up, showered, watched a movie, then went out in quest of dinner. I walked up and down the main road near the hotel, but there was nothing appealing. However, the office involved 20 meters from the hotel had a restaurant, so I went in there and found 5 other farangs from the visa run also there. The food was good, the prices were not expensive, and I was able to pay with Thai baht. The young lady behind the bar was probably the most gorgeous girl I have ever laid eyes on, and I have been to Thailand off and on for 20 years. She made me wish I was 25 again.

Next day, I had breakfast at the same restaurant, and then nearby 1Pm, we piled into the vans again and were taken to the border. There are a lot of "duty free" shops at the border. We waited about 45 minutes or so, and then the visa run lady showed up, and we all went through Immigration with the Lao border citizen just looking at us, not asking to see our passports, which the visa run lady had.

Back across the bridge to Thailand, where we waited an additional one 45 minutes or so, then it was back on the bus for the return trip. Within an hour, we stopped at a restaurant, where we had an additional one Thai meal, again free, soft drinks extra, 20 baht.

The return trip seemed much faster, as several Dvd movies were played, which occupies the time and the mind.

We arrived back in Bangkok at 1:30 Am. You can get dropped off everywhere along the route; some exited at Ramkhamhaeng. I waited until the end, which is just beside Ekamai Bts station, where I quickly discovered that the Bts was closed. An 80 baht taxi ride later, I was home again.

Would I do it again? Definitely, yes. The whole process was pretty much automatic. The business took care of everything. You do have to book a seat in advance, though. One farang apparently called to find out the price and time, showed up and was angry that there was no seat for him. But he had not made a reservation, had not left his name or phone number, so was out of luck. Of course, he had left it until the last day of his visa, so he would have to leave the next day somehow and pay the 500 baht overstay fee.

To summarize: you leave at 8:30Pm, spend a night on the bus. Then it's half a day waiting around, with brunch included. Check into the hotel, sleep a bit or, if you have the stamina, observe Vientiane. Not much there, though. Have dinner, sleep one night at the hotel. Next day, wait nearby for a morning or visit Vientiane, then bus it back to Bangkok, arriving about 1:30 Am.

If you want to do this yourself, the business I used was "Quick Thai Visa Run", 6th floor, Pb Tower, Sukhumvit Soi 71. The experience is Phillip, who speaks excellent English, at 02-713-2498 (office hours) or 09-0245-255 (24 hours). They have a web site at ThaiVisaRun.com, but it hasn't been updated in a while, and only mentions their Cambodia run, not the Laos run.

Ticket (Love of Siam) w/English Lyrics

Ticket (Love of Siam) w/English Lyrics Tube. Duration : 3.47 Mins.

A unique song in the official soundtrack of the celebrated movie, "The Love of Siam," Ticket (Day Trip) does not mention anything directly related to love. However, in a deeper analysis of the song, it talks about a guy who is forbidden to love. The lines, "This ticket is not for me even if it is sold to everyone" is parallel to Mew's situation.

Keywords: Ticket, (Daytrip), Love, of, Siam, OST, Thailand, Mew, Tong, Mario, Maurer, Pchy, Witwisit, Hiranyawongkul, August, Band, Thanx, rosemartina

Detailing London's No-Go Zones to Avoid on Holiday

Detailing London's No-Go Zones to Avoid on Holiday

London is a gorgeous city with a collection of compelling attractions. For the holidaymaker, exploration makes trip enjoyable. However, there is a degree of danger to be thought about when planning the daily itinerary. Most major cities have definite neighbourhoods that suffer with high crime rates. London is no irregularity to this rule. As a result, safety threats might be found during an evening trip to the wrong borough on social transport. When evaluating current crime statistics, definite areas of London should be thought about no-go zones.

High Crime Rates Indicate No-Go Zones

Go To Thailand

Some of London's highest crime rates are found in the Borough of Westminster. However, Covent organery and Leicester square are thought about safe despite their location in this rowdy neighbourhood. For those that intend to traverse Westminster, greatest caution should be taken. Agreeing to a narrative by the Metropolitan Police, Westminster experienced 63,655 reported crimes in 2009.

Many reconsider the Borough of Southwark to be among the more perilous places in London. The Metropolitan Police reported 30,755 crimes in this neighbourhood in 2009. While renovation efforts might make Southwark safer in the distant future, it contains rough patches that should be thought about no-go zones. For example, Peckham is known to be a particularly troubling area of Southwark.

Crime Rates Are Not the Only Indicator

There are perilous neighbourhoods that don't originate such threatening statistics on government reports. Brixton has a reputation for its local gang culture. Road toughs battle over black store disputes in this location. Poverty and political strife affect the Borough of Hackney. While these areas might not gift frightening demographic data points, locals know the perils created by warring gangs. When planning a holiday schedule, avoid these risky locations.

Smart Planning Yields a Safe Holiday

London is a safe and captivating city to visit on holiday. However, every urban area contains perilous neighbourhoods. For safety purposes, choose London hotels in upmarket areas. Practice caution when using social transport. Favor attractions in tranquil parts of London when building an itinerary. While dangers lurk in dark corners of every city, a microscopic study will help holidaymakers avoid the most troubled boroughs.

When shopping between the luxurious hotels London offers, reconsider the safety of surrounding neighbourhoods. The path to rail stations might involve a walk through the city. While an evening walk through gorgeous London is an incredible experience, definite no-go zones should be excluded from such plans.

Fun Places To Go In California

Fun Places To Go In California

California is one of the most entertaining states in the country, both to live and to visit. I have lived in California for about half my life and I have no desire to leave the state. I have also enjoyed touring most of the state, from Mt. Shasta to Yosemite to San Diego to Palm Springs. California is undoubtedly not to be missed!

I first visited California at age six, along with the rest of my family. My parents took my sister and me to Disneyland on my sixth birthday and I loved it! We also visited San Francisco, San Diego, and Big Sur on the trip. My only unpleasant caress was getting carsick in Big Sur, due to my father driving fast along the meandering coastal Highway 1.

Go To Thailand

My house moved from Cleveland to San Francisco when I was eight. For years, we all bragged about how much of an correction it was. Indeed, San Francisco is one of the most gorgeous places in the world in my opinion. I now live in Los Angeles, but I still visit the City By the Bay four or five times a year. Fun places to see in Sf comprise Golden Gate Park, Chinatown, The Embarcadero, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Presidio.

Los Angeles is other very entertaining city. The Los Angeles area is home to Disneyland, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Laguna Beach. I enjoy living in La, despite dealing with the high volume of traffic along the freeways. La has something going on for everyone.

I used to visit San Diego once a year or so, though I haven't been there for any years. San Diego is other very fun place. In particular, I used to enjoy Balboa Park, home of the world-famous San Diego Zoo as well as any museums. La Jolla, the locale of Black's Beach and Uc San Diego, is other enjoyable spot near San Diego.

Another entertaining thing to see in California are the national parks. California has eight national parks, more than any other state except for Alaska, which also has eight. My parents first took me to Yosemite when I was nine years old and I loved it! I was awed by the attractiveness of the Yosemite Valley, including the Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, and El Capitan. Since then, I have been back about 20 times.

All-in-all, California is not to be missed!

Climbing Thailand - An Introduction

Climbing Thailand - An Introduction

A great composition especially when they all meet in Thailand. Owing to plentiful climbs, in a truly exotic location, Thailand is fast gaining a credit as a can't-miss climbing destination. The change rate is convenient with many of the major currencies and living expenses are cheap compared to Western prices.

Locations

Go To Thailand

There are two main climbing areas. One settled in the northwest, just exterior of the city of Chang Mai which is the second largest city in Thailand. Visit the local climbing shops to question about how and where to start. The area has over 100 climbs with a good portion of them at easier grades (for Thailand). No beaches here but the climate, in high season (Nov.-April), can be cooler than added south.

The second major area is at Railay beach. settled in southern Thailand, near to Krabi Town, it enjoys a location on the wonderful Andaman Sea. The Railay area has an East and West beach plus Tonsai beach. Accessible only by boat, it's 20 minutes via longtail boat from Krabi Town to East Railay. From Au Nong, it's about 10 minutes to West Railay and Tonsai.

No vehicular traffic and a remote feel keeps the scene somewhat low-key. You won't find any of the 'cheese' that some other Thailand hotspots are illustrious for.

The Climbing

Climbing ranges from directly off the beach, to fantastic, fully bolted, multi-pitch climbs back in the jungle. There are a variety of guidebooks ready and it would be wise to read at least one of these to learn about the climbs and the fixed gear. The environment here is harsh on metal, so knowing which bolts are best to clip, is very good for your health.

There are numerous climbing shops nearby and you can hire a guide for a half day or a week or more. It may be best to spend some time walking nearby the crags to see the guides in action. They're easy to spot as they are normally the ones shouting directions. Some are quieter than others. Pick one that fits your style. Gear is normally included when you hire a guide but it's also ready for rent for those who travel light.

Climbing grades start at 6a, (5.10 Yds). Below this, there are only a handful of climbs and most are getting a bit polished due to their popularity. No need for a natural gear rack. This is pure sport climbing fun, with a mix of bolts and natural thread runners.

West Railay (sunset side) is the most upscale, together with some truly wonderful homes for rent at The Railay Beach Club. East Railay is more middle-of-the-road, where you will find lots of mid-priced accommodations. Tonsai is popular with the budget backpacker, with super cheap bamboo huts up the hillside. You can walk nearby to every beach. Tonsai is the furthest; about 20 minutes walk from East Railay.

What else to do

There are fullness of activities to fill your rest days. Sea kayaks are ready for rent and most will contain snorkeling gear. West Railay and Phranang beach are the best for swimming and sunbathing. For those with more energy, there are a few hikes worth taking, together with one to a inexpressive lagoon. Don't do this hike in the rain though. The red clay soil turns into slick plastic when wet and the hike down is quite steep. Longtail boats are ready for hire to visit the many gorgeous islands in the area. Island trips normally contain lunch and snorkeling gear.

When to go

The high season runs from mid November to the end of April. Prices are higher during this time and are reduced as much as half in the low season. Low season starts in May and is ordinarily rainier, but you can always find some time to climb regardless of the month. The summer (May-September) may even be cooler than the high season (November to April). Climbing in the early morning is best during the hottest months, followed by a relaxing afternoon.

If climbing is your passion and you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere in an exotic locale. Then, Thailand must be on your to-do list. an additional one plus - the food is truly as delicious as the climbing!
