Food Of Northern Thailand

Food Of Northern Thailand

I moved half way around the world to Northern Thailand in order to eat better. You might say that I'm more than a diminutive curious in food.

I remember the food writer and Tv celebrity chef Jamie Oliver saying that he dreams about herbs. Surprisingly it is the only sensible and general sounding thing I have ever heard him say. It's not unusual for me to spend days or weeks mental about single recipes or foods, although I haven't yet dreamed about herbs...I'm sure though it's only a matter of time.

Go To Thailand

The foods available in Northern Thailand must rank surrounded by the most intelligent and extraordinary in the world. There are influences from throughout Asia together with China and India and the fragrant dishes of Malaysia, Indonesia, Lao, Vietnam and Southern Thailand (the old Siam). It's a giddy mixture and a life's work to get to know and understand them all...but I'm prepared to give it a go. It's a life changing contact in itself.

Part of the extraordinary food contact in Northern Thailand is the strong market culture. There are perfect fresh markets throughout this whole region that sell the freshest and best food in any place on the planet. Huge piles of mangoes, cabbages, chilies, coriander, strawberries, jack fruit, limes, lemon grass and every other fruit or vegetable you can think of fill the buzzing markets.

The part of the market that I frequent the most is the rice section. Back in the Uk rice is just something you buy and cook and don't think a great deal about. Here in Chiang Mai, the main city in Northern Thailand, rice is almost a revered commodity. There are endless types of rice available for sale whether piled high in big sacks, or already cooked in big steaming vats. My popular and probably the most popular in this part of Chiang Mai is locally grown sticky rice. I had sticky rice once in London in a Thai bistro and speedily wished I hadn't. It was a bit like eating glue. The sticky rice here is wholly different; it's warm and soft...more like fluffy mashed potatoes than rice. It's the kind of food that will all the time be eaten because, like mashed potatoes, it is so damn good.

So, once you have your warm sticky rice what next? There are different ways you can go from here. whether you could try some Thai soups or curries and dip the rice right into it, or you could spend in a tiny pot of spicy dry chili sauce called "Nam Prik Ta Dem" which is popular all over Thailand. Some population do eat the rice and the dry sauce as a meal in itself...it's the cheapest unblemished meal available at most markets. If however, you have a few baht left over (which I'm sure you might) you could think about getting something from the grilled section. Thai sausages are excellent, but vary enormously in spiciness. There are also grilled fish which range from the perfect and locally farmed Catfish to the costly Snake Head Fish with soft flaky flesh or perhaps you may prefer some chicken, or honey marinated pork satay, or deep fried vegetable tempura or land crab pate or any one of the most delicious and unusual foods in the world.

Today, when it's market time I'm heading for the fresh seafood section, and buy myself a big bag full of Tiger Prawns and perhaps some Soft Shell Crabs. I'll then trundle round to the fresh herb section and pick out some big bunches of Coriander, Lemon Grass, Basil and Spring Onions. I can't wait to get cooking with all these fresh flavors. I'm sure that if Jamie Oliver shopped down at my local market he'd find it difficult to work out the discrepancy between when he was dreaming about herbs and wide awake!

Enjoy Northern Thai food.

Thailand Expat Life - Visa Run to Vientiane, Laos

A few days ago, I made my first visa run to Laos, by bus.

Normally I go to Singapore to get a 60-day tourist visa, but the last time I went, they refused to give me a 60-day visa because I have an open e-ticket back to Canada. They now want a confirmed ticket, and will not accept an open ticket. This is stupid, if you ask me. I told the lady at the front desk that if the violence in Bangkok gets bad, I can phone Air Canada and be on my way next day, so an open ticket is much great than a ticket for a singular date. No dice. So I had to fly back to Bangkok and got the usual 30-day entry at the airport. The whole trip cost me 18,000 baht, counting hotels, flights, meals, taxis, etc. What a waste.

Go To Thailand

I did a join of visa runs by bus to Cambodia, and find that a pain in the bum, since you only get 14 days and then have to do it again, and it costs 2000 baht each time.

Thailand Expat Life - Visa Run to Vientiane, Laos

So this time, I signed up for the bus to Vientiane.

Go To Thailand

I must say that the assistance by the visa run business was excellent; the bus (a 40-seater) was full, and it was the same comfortable bus they use for the Cambodia runs, with the same driver. The driver is relatively conservative, seems to be mindful of the fact he's got 40 farangs on board, and is as careful a driver as you would want.

The bus left Pb Tower on Sukhumvit Soi 71 exactly at 8:30Pm.

There was a pee break about an hour later at a assistance centre, and then an additional one 2 hours later, and so on, throughout the night. These gave the driver a chance to relax a bit, which I notion was a good idea.

Unfortunately, I have never been able to sleep on a bus or airplane, and this trip was no exception. While my seat mate happily snored away the night, I sat there bleary eyed, shifting in my seat periodically as my bum got sore. I appreciated the rest breaks as well.

A Dvd movie was played at the start of the trip, but after it finished, it was after 11Pm, so no more movies were shown.

We arrived at the border early, before 6:30. I watched the sun come up. We had to sit nearby for a while until the border office opened, and then one of the bus business ladies got all our passports processed. She had previously collected them on the bus.

After being stamped out of Thailand, we took 3 mini-buses (vans) across the bridge (Mekong River) into Laos, where again we waited while the lady got our passports processed by Lao immigration. In less than an hour, we took the mini-buses into Vientiane, and arrived at the road for the Thai Embassy about 7:30 or 7:40 Am. There were already at least 200 citizen lined up along the sidewalk, and it was hot.

The embassy gates opened about 8:15 Am, and we all filed into the embassy compound. There was a ticket engine at the front, and we joined the queue.

However, our erstwhile visa run lady ushered us up the stairs into an air-conditioned area and handed out low-numbered tickets from the machine. Our numbers started nearby 95, whereas the citizen at the ticket engine were getting tickets numbered over 350. So I conjecture she had some experience in Vientiane who stood at the starting of the line at the gates at an early hour, and then passed the tickets to her when she arrived an hour or more later.

The ticket numbers were called out over the public address theory in both Thai and English, and repeated once: "Ticket number 37, please proceed to counter number 2".

I soon noticed that there was no pause in the number callout, the announcements came non-stop, and soon reached the 80s. We all rushed downstairs to the counters and were there when our numbers came up. But the numbers just kept on rolling by. Our lady collected our passports and tickets, and lined them all up along the counter, and then told us to go wait in the other building.

Over there, we found there were four more counters, numbered 3 through 6, but only one, counter 4, was active, and there were at least 100 citizen waiting, sitting on chairs. This waiting room was also air conditioned.

Again, the numbers were called out, but this time there were big gaps between, and there was a big pause after each number was called. When a number was called, a someone went up to counter 4, received a paper receipt, and then exited stage left.

After every batch of 10 or 12 numbers, there was a 5 or 6 small delay. That was when I noticed that the Thai lady behind the counter was printing out and then separating the receipts. Clearly, the passports and applications were being processed in the other building, entered into a computer, and then the receipt was printed in this building at counter 4.

After about 30 or 40 minutes, my number was called; I went up to the counter, got my receipt and exited. The guy next to me had a lower number, but his number was not called, so he got a small upset and went up to the counter, where the lady told him to wait.

I went out the exit, and there was my visa run lady collecting the receipts, and then ushering us over to one of the vans. My receipt had shown "60 days duplicate entry tourist visa" and "fee: ", so I was happy.

The van took us to a local bistro where we had a Thai/Lao food breakfast or brunch of fried rice and whatever. This was free, paid for by the visa run company, but soft drinks were 20 baht extra.

In Laos, you can use Lao kip, Thai baht, and Us dollars interchangeably. If you pay in Thai baht, you get change in Thai baht. If you pay in Us dollars, you get change in Lao kip, which, like Cambodian currency, has very high denominations and no value. A Pepsi was 20 baht, which was reasonable, but no diet drinks were available. By the way, Atm machines in Laos only dispense Lao kip.

After brunch, we were taken by van to the hotel, which turned out to be quite acceptable, maybe 2.5 stars. There was no pool, just a room, but it was a big room, inexpressive bathroom, and cable or satellite Tv with many Thai, a few Lao, and some movie channels, along with Hbo and Star Movies.

The bathroom was typical Thai-style, with no shower stall or bath, and a shower head on the wall. There was a flash water heater which worked, and the toilet worked. The towels were large, red, fluffy, and obviously new.

I had paid an extra 200 baht at the front desk for a inexpressive room. The visa run fee of 5000 baht includes a shared room (2 per room). The fee will growth to 6000 baht after the free tourist visa promotion ends June 5.

In bed by 1Pm in the afternoon, I slept for several hours, got up, showered, watched a movie, then went out in quest of dinner. I walked up and down the main road near the hotel, but there was nothing appealing. However, the office involved 20 meters from the hotel had a restaurant, so I went in there and found 5 other farangs from the visa run also there. The food was good, the prices were not expensive, and I was able to pay with Thai baht. The young lady behind the bar was probably the most gorgeous girl I have ever laid eyes on, and I have been to Thailand off and on for 20 years. She made me wish I was 25 again.

Next day, I had breakfast at the same restaurant, and then nearby 1Pm, we piled into the vans again and were taken to the border. There are a lot of "duty free" shops at the border. We waited about 45 minutes or so, and then the visa run lady showed up, and we all went through Immigration with the Lao border citizen just looking at us, not asking to see our passports, which the visa run lady had.

Back across the bridge to Thailand, where we waited an additional one 45 minutes or so, then it was back on the bus for the return trip. Within an hour, we stopped at a restaurant, where we had an additional one Thai meal, again free, soft drinks extra, 20 baht.

The return trip seemed much faster, as several Dvd movies were played, which occupies the time and the mind.

We arrived back in Bangkok at 1:30 Am. You can get dropped off everywhere along the route; some exited at Ramkhamhaeng. I waited until the end, which is just beside Ekamai Bts station, where I quickly discovered that the Bts was closed. An 80 baht taxi ride later, I was home again.

Would I do it again? Definitely, yes. The whole process was pretty much automatic. The business took care of everything. You do have to book a seat in advance, though. One farang apparently called to find out the price and time, showed up and was angry that there was no seat for him. But he had not made a reservation, had not left his name or phone number, so was out of luck. Of course, he had left it until the last day of his visa, so he would have to leave the next day somehow and pay the 500 baht overstay fee.

To summarize: you leave at 8:30Pm, spend a night on the bus. Then it's half a day waiting around, with brunch included. Check into the hotel, sleep a bit or, if you have the stamina, observe Vientiane. Not much there, though. Have dinner, sleep one night at the hotel. Next day, wait nearby for a morning or visit Vientiane, then bus it back to Bangkok, arriving about 1:30 Am.

If you want to do this yourself, the business I used was "Quick Thai Visa Run", 6th floor, Pb Tower, Sukhumvit Soi 71. The experience is Phillip, who speaks excellent English, at 02-713-2498 (office hours) or 09-0245-255 (24 hours). They have a web site at ThaiVisaRun.com, but it hasn't been updated in a while, and only mentions their Cambodia run, not the Laos run.

Ticket (Love of Siam) w/English Lyrics

Ticket (Love of Siam) w/English Lyrics Tube. Duration : 3.47 Mins.

A unique song in the official soundtrack of the celebrated movie, "The Love of Siam," Ticket (Day Trip) does not mention anything directly related to love. However, in a deeper analysis of the song, it talks about a guy who is forbidden to love. The lines, "This ticket is not for me even if it is sold to everyone" is parallel to Mew's situation.

Detailing London's No-Go Zones to Avoid on Holiday

Detailing London's No-Go Zones to Avoid on Holiday

London is a gorgeous city with a collection of compelling attractions. For the holidaymaker, exploration makes trip enjoyable. However, there is a degree of danger to be thought about when planning the daily itinerary. Most major cities have definite neighbourhoods that suffer with high crime rates. London is no irregularity to this rule. As a result, safety threats might be found during an evening trip to the wrong borough on social transport. When evaluating current crime statistics, definite areas of London should be thought about no-go zones.

High Crime Rates Indicate No-Go Zones

Go To Thailand

Some of London's highest crime rates are found in the Borough of Westminster. However, Covent organery and Leicester square are thought about safe despite their location in this rowdy neighbourhood. For those that intend to traverse Westminster, greatest caution should be taken. Agreeing to a narrative by the Metropolitan Police, Westminster experienced 63,655 reported crimes in 2009.

Many reconsider the Borough of Southwark to be among the more perilous places in London. The Metropolitan Police reported 30,755 crimes in this neighbourhood in 2009. While renovation efforts might make Southwark safer in the distant future, it contains rough patches that should be thought about no-go zones. For example, Peckham is known to be a particularly troubling area of Southwark.

Crime Rates Are Not the Only Indicator

There are perilous neighbourhoods that don't originate such threatening statistics on government reports. Brixton has a reputation for its local gang culture. Road toughs battle over black store disputes in this location. Poverty and political strife affect the Borough of Hackney. While these areas might not gift frightening demographic data points, locals know the perils created by warring gangs. When planning a holiday schedule, avoid these risky locations.

Smart Planning Yields a Safe Holiday

London is a safe and captivating city to visit on holiday. However, every urban area contains perilous neighbourhoods. For safety purposes, choose London hotels in upmarket areas. Practice caution when using social transport. Favor attractions in tranquil parts of London when building an itinerary. While dangers lurk in dark corners of every city, a microscopic study will help holidaymakers avoid the most troubled boroughs.

When shopping between the luxurious hotels London offers, reconsider the safety of surrounding neighbourhoods. The path to rail stations might involve a walk through the city. While an evening walk through gorgeous London is an incredible experience, definite no-go zones should be excluded from such plans.

Fun Places To Go In California

Fun Places To Go In California

California is one of the most entertaining states in the country, both to live and to visit. I have lived in California for about half my life and I have no desire to leave the state. I have also enjoyed touring most of the state, from Mt. Shasta to Yosemite to San Diego to Palm Springs. California is undoubtedly not to be missed!

I first visited California at age six, along with the rest of my family. My parents took my sister and me to Disneyland on my sixth birthday and I loved it! We also visited San Francisco, San Diego, and Big Sur on the trip. My only unpleasant caress was getting carsick in Big Sur, due to my father driving fast along the meandering coastal Highway 1.

Go To Thailand

My house moved from Cleveland to San Francisco when I was eight. For years, we all bragged about how much of an correction it was. Indeed, San Francisco is one of the most gorgeous places in the world in my opinion. I now live in Los Angeles, but I still visit the City By the Bay four or five times a year. Fun places to see in Sf comprise Golden Gate Park, Chinatown, The Embarcadero, Fisherman's Wharf, and the Presidio.

Los Angeles is other very entertaining city. The Los Angeles area is home to Disneyland, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Laguna Beach. I enjoy living in La, despite dealing with the high volume of traffic along the freeways. La has something going on for everyone.

I used to visit San Diego once a year or so, though I haven't been there for any years. San Diego is other very fun place. In particular, I used to enjoy Balboa Park, home of the world-famous San Diego Zoo as well as any museums. La Jolla, the locale of Black's Beach and Uc San Diego, is other enjoyable spot near San Diego.

Another entertaining thing to see in California are the national parks. California has eight national parks, more than any other state except for Alaska, which also has eight. My parents first took me to Yosemite when I was nine years old and I loved it! I was awed by the attractiveness of the Yosemite Valley, including the Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, and El Capitan. Since then, I have been back about 20 times.

All-in-all, California is not to be missed!

Climbing Thailand - An Introduction

Climbing Thailand - An Introduction

A great composition especially when they all meet in Thailand. Owing to plentiful climbs, in a truly exotic location, Thailand is fast gaining a credit as a can't-miss climbing destination. The change rate is convenient with many of the major currencies and living expenses are cheap compared to Western prices.

Locations

Go To Thailand

There are two main climbing areas. One settled in the northwest, just exterior of the city of Chang Mai which is the second largest city in Thailand. Visit the local climbing shops to question about how and where to start. The area has over 100 climbs with a good portion of them at easier grades (for Thailand). No beaches here but the climate, in high season (Nov.-April), can be cooler than added south.

The second major area is at Railay beach. settled in southern Thailand, near to Krabi Town, it enjoys a location on the wonderful Andaman Sea. The Railay area has an East and West beach plus Tonsai beach. Accessible only by boat, it's 20 minutes via longtail boat from Krabi Town to East Railay. From Au Nong, it's about 10 minutes to West Railay and Tonsai.

No vehicular traffic and a remote feel keeps the scene somewhat low-key. You won't find any of the 'cheese' that some other Thailand hotspots are illustrious for.

The Climbing

Climbing ranges from directly off the beach, to fantastic, fully bolted, multi-pitch climbs back in the jungle. There are a variety of guidebooks ready and it would be wise to read at least one of these to learn about the climbs and the fixed gear. The environment here is harsh on metal, so knowing which bolts are best to clip, is very good for your health.

There are numerous climbing shops nearby and you can hire a guide for a half day or a week or more. It may be best to spend some time walking nearby the crags to see the guides in action. They're easy to spot as they are normally the ones shouting directions. Some are quieter than others. Pick one that fits your style. Gear is normally included when you hire a guide but it's also ready for rent for those who travel light.

Climbing grades start at 6a, (5.10 Yds). Below this, there are only a handful of climbs and most are getting a bit polished due to their popularity. No need for a natural gear rack. This is pure sport climbing fun, with a mix of bolts and natural thread runners.

West Railay (sunset side) is the most upscale, together with some truly wonderful homes for rent at The Railay Beach Club. East Railay is more middle-of-the-road, where you will find lots of mid-priced accommodations. Tonsai is popular with the budget backpacker, with super cheap bamboo huts up the hillside. You can walk nearby to every beach. Tonsai is the furthest; about 20 minutes walk from East Railay.

What else to do

There are fullness of activities to fill your rest days. Sea kayaks are ready for rent and most will contain snorkeling gear. West Railay and Phranang beach are the best for swimming and sunbathing. For those with more energy, there are a few hikes worth taking, together with one to a inexpressive lagoon. Don't do this hike in the rain though. The red clay soil turns into slick plastic when wet and the hike down is quite steep. Longtail boats are ready for hire to visit the many gorgeous islands in the area. Island trips normally contain lunch and snorkeling gear.

When to go

The high season runs from mid November to the end of April. Prices are higher during this time and are reduced as much as half in the low season. Low season starts in May and is ordinarily rainier, but you can always find some time to climb regardless of the month. The summer (May-September) may even be cooler than the high season (November to April). Climbing in the early morning is best during the hottest months, followed by a relaxing afternoon.

If climbing is your passion and you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere in an exotic locale. Then, Thailand must be on your to-do list. an additional one plus - the food is truly as delicious as the climbing!

Thai optic Arts In The Elementary Classroom

According to King Vajiravudh or Rama Vi, the three pillars that hold together the Thai society are - nation, religion and monarchy. Despite the technological, prudent and scientific advancements, it is on the basis of its definite cultural identity that the world recognizes Thailand. Hence, it is indispensable to promote awareness of cultural legacy and pride of being a Thai among children and youth. The idea of art schooling in Thailand is concentrated on developing personal and creative instincts and styles among children. Section 23 under National schooling Act directs compulsory schooling till age of nine that accommodates knowledge about the history, culture, traditions, art forms and sports of Thailand.

Art is a core part of school curriculum in the elementary classrooms. This includes principally three art forms called the optic arts, performing arts and music. The main objective of elementary art schooling in Thailand is to make children aware about the discrete art forms and their cultural heritage. It aims at educating the children about the utility of the art forms in expressing the feelings of population of separate cultures.

Go To Thailand

Many of the educationalists believe that Asian students along with Thais have a passive participation pertaining to classroom teaching. Classroom teaching emphasizes on describing an art form rather than encouraging children to create their own. Hence, these children prefer to remain silent and hesitate to ask questions. The art curriculum aims at developing a passion within the child in appreciating an art form and utilizing it in the perspective of the real life. Developing a creative mind is vital for any art form. Through creativity, one can create his identity in the society. Teachers should try to imbibe this idea in the minds of children.

Why I Don't Date Thailand Bar Girls

Why I Don't Date Thailand Bar Girls

Thailand is a magical place, the beaches, warm climate, unique culture, great food and beautiful women. It's easy to see how a visitor in Thailand may think that he has found paradise at last. Every years, thousands and thousands of Western men return home from a holiday in Thailand wanting to return as fast as possible. Many times, the theorize for this is a woman, and more often than not it's a bar girl who has put a spell on him. Sometimes, everything works out and the consolidate live happily ever after, but in other instances, cultural differences and mistaken expectations lead to nasty breakups. Over the years, I've seen many Thai-Farang relationships. Those that lasted were commonly not those who began in a bar.

There's nothing wrong with meeting your Thai sweetheart in a bar, I mean, that happens all the time back home, but I think there are good reasons to be vary before entering into a serious association with a 'bar girl'.

Go To Thailand

I am not one of those people who think that Thai women working in a bar are necessarily 'bad' or only out for money, far from it actually, but I do think that their lifestyle may gift some problems in the long run.

Picture this: A young, consuming girl from the countryside goes to work in a bar. She's never been out of the village before, let alone met any foreigners. Her daily life probably consisted of working in a rice paddy or falling asleep at some menial and boring job. Then she comes to Bangkok or Pattaya, with her head full of dreams and hopes. What she finds is a place where the neon lights are bright, every day is a party, drinking, sleeping until noon and then starting over.

For a young inexperienced girl anywhere, that kind of lifestyle has to be exciting. So, you see, when she meets you in a bar, is she precisely seeing to determine down with a guy who is often significantly older than her?

Even if she is, is she ready to leave the easy work and big money behind and start working in a 9-5 job again? Leave her new friends and be the perfect stay at home wife? Most likely not.

The bar scene attracts a confident type on both sides of the equation. If you're seeing for a nice Thai woman to determine down with and finally marry, then I suggest seeing elsewhere.

Take a walk down any street in Thailand; do you notice at least one girl sending you a shy look, maybe a smile? Maybe you don't, cause we as Westerners are not in tune with the subtle signals Thai women send to men they are interested in. Don't expect a 'good' Thai girl to make the first step.

Never Go to Bed Mad

Let me paint you a picture. The moon is beginning its ascend into the night sky and the time for bed is approaching faster than a wrinkle on a fifty year old man. Your desire to pop your lover in the face with a solid knuckle sandwich is increasing with every tick of the clock. You're so angry with your mate that you make a grizzly bear with cubs look tame. But then it hits you, the golden rule your mom taught you the day before your wedding. Never go to bed mad.

So how does one overcome feelings of such indignation? Well for starters you must remember that your mom was right for telling you not to go to bed mad. No matter how disturbed you are with your lover it's egregious that you kiss and make up before you slumber down for the evening.

Go To Thailand

Love is like a bowl full of cream. It can be rich and rewarding but if you forget to put it in the refrigerator at night, it'll be an appalling mess in the morning. Your love is no different; never let it sit to ferment over night. The damage it can do may be irreversible.

Never Go to Bed Mad

Men and women will, straight through out a relationship, have battles worthy of the Roman Empire. It's natural and to be expected, but you're not out to be a super power so calling a truce does not make you weak, it makes you smart. No matter how mad you are remember how good it will feel to make up. The best pillow at night is a clear head, so dump your anger and give your boy a hug. And who knows, you may even get the ever sought after make up sex as a bonus.

Railay Beach, Thailand

Railay Beach, Thailand, also known as Rai Leh, is a favorite beach resort on the Andaman Coast in Krabi, Thailand. One of its prime attractions other than its gorgeous beach is the proximity of towering limestone cliffs.

Railay Beach, Thailand excites tourists with its unique access. Being a peninsula, cutoff from the mainland by oceans and mountains, it can be reached only by a longtail boat ride. Quarterly services are ready from Ao Nang, Krabi, Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi and Phuket.

Tourists prefer Railay for two reasons - its tranquility and expected rock climbing opportunities. While its secluded nature attracts families and honeymooners, the limestone formations lure the backpacking crowd. Railay has accommodation options to cater to these two groups.

Rayavadee Premier Resort on Phra Nang beach is the best accommodation Railay has to offer. Being the lone resort on the beach, it offers complete privacy for its guests. In the mid-range, Railay has a amount of accommodation choices, most of them settled on its west side. Railay's funds accommodations, though not many, are found along its eastern side. The neighboring Ton Sai beach, settled barely 10 minutes away, has more choices in this segment.

Railay beach has a range of restaurants and bars to cater to the needs of the tourists. Most of them serve the local cuisine that is both tasty and affordable. The west-end of Railay has a few hi-end restaurants, some of them settled on the beach.

Rock climbing is one of Railay's main reasons for popularity in the world traveler map. However, the steep limestone cliffs are not favorable for beginners. Avid rock climbers flock to Railay to enjoy the thrill and breath-taking sea views from the cliff tops.

Railay Beach Thailand also has miniature possibilities for divers and snorkeling enthusiasts, as nautical life and coral reefs are not as sharp or diverse as in other Thailand beaches. The sea caves along Phra Nang beach offer ample opportunities for kayaking enthusiasts.

Thailand firm Registration and Land Acquisition

The whole of foreign visitors in Thailand has increased remarkably over the up-to-date past. Interest in retaining business and asset has likewise escalated. Despite this, the Thai government has not relaxed rules on foreign proprietary of land in the country.

While foreign land proprietary is commonly not ready in Thailand, corporations are allowed to buy and own land in the State. Even corporations owned partly by foreigners are allowed to buy land. Foreigners have seen this as an opening to own asset in the country. They have since availed of this selection as a solution to the restriction.

Go To Thailand

Incorporation: The most coarse corporate form exploited by foreigners is the Thai puny Company. The Thai puny business is easy to set up and requires few principals.

Thailand firm Registration and Land Acquisition

Here are a few guidelines on business registration in Thailand:

Go To Thailand

The business must first register with the Thai authorities. To register as a Thai company, the majority of the shares must be held by Thai citizens. The business requires at least three shareholders. Once the corporation has filed with the Thai authorities, they are already allowed to purchase land. Note that this selection is separate from the allowances for U.S. Corporations under the Amity Treaty. Corporations registered under the Amity Treaty may not purchase land.

The Thai puny business offers investment options while protecting the critical investors. First, shareholders are only liable for any unpaid shares. Additionally, the registration process is relatively straightforward. So long as the majority of the shareholders are Thai citizens, the corporation merely has to file the paperwork with the proper government office.

Thai law requires that Thai citizens hold the majority of shares in a Thai corporation. However, Thai law allows for separate kinds of shares. Lowly shares grant the shareholder one vote per share. Favorite shares allow the shareholder manifold votes per share. In the case at hand, the corporation may select to grant manifold Thai shareholders Lowly shares while issuing Favorite shares to fewer foreign shareholders. Therefore, the business will qualify under Thai law. However, the foreign party may still sustain control over the operations because they can assign more votes.

Land Acquisition: Once the foreign party has properly incorporated, they may purchase asset like any other juristic person in Thailand. The convenient voting distribution allows the foreigner to sustain total control over the assets held by the corporation. Therefore, the foreigner can decree when and where to buy and sell land. They may also decree how the land is used. All of the facets make this an animated selection for foreigners. Effectively, they may own land.

Despite these advantages, foreign investors must all the time reconsider obvious issues. First, the foreigner must find a Thai habitancy that they feel comfortable going into business with. This will involve networking which may be difficult with the language barrier. Thai and foreign parties may also have a hard time agreeing on the terms of the business arrangement. In any culture, it is difficult to find person willing to offer his or her "services" free of charge. Finally, there are some minimum investment requirements. The foreign investor will likely have to deposit 10 million baht into a Thai bank account. This minimum often puts this selection out of reach for the average investor. However, foreigners who can afford this minimum and meet the other requirements can effectively enter into business and own land.

Thailand is also a constitutional monarchy. His Majesty the king Bhumibhol Adulyadej is the most respected and the world's longest reigning monarch. He notable his 6oth anniversary of ascension on the throne last June. Thais have a deep respect with their king, along with the other members of the royal family. Telling a joke or a jest to the Royal house is a grave insult for the Thai people and its country.

Each country has a unique culture and tradition, same with Thailand. Once you visit this country, there are some precautions and proper behaviours that you must follow. Below are some of the do's and don'ts in this country:

· As I mentioned earlier, Thai's have a deep respect to the Royal family. Never tell a joke or a jest about them, even pictures or portrait of them must be respected too.

· If you will enter a temple, make it sure that your dress is appropiate.Avoid wearing unsuitable attire. Also leave your shoes or slippers once you entered the inside chapel.

· Touching someone's head or pointing with the feet is unacceptable. Thai regard the head as the most sacred part of the body, while the feet are the dirtiest and lowest part of the body.

· communal affection is frowned in the middle of man and woman

Working in Thailand

If you are finding for a separate taste in teaching English in South East Asia, Thailand is one the best destination to pick from. In my experience, I can say that I'm enjoying my stay in this country with my family. Aside from the low cost of living, there are other opportunities waiting for you, if you are certainly serious to become an English teacher. Every one who comes in Thailand to work as an English trainer has a separate reason. Some are working here to save money; others want to gain more taste teaching abroad; some will tell you that the wage here is bigger correlate to their country of origin.

Getting a job here is easy, especially for the native speakers of English. Most schools in this country do hire a white to educate their students even they are not qualified.(This may be a shocking facts for Asian teachers, but it's the truth)Some schools do still hire a trainer based on the good qualification of the applicant no matter where you came from. Others, do wish a Tefl certificate even you have or without a bachelor degree.

Everyone who is planning to work in a unavoidable school must check first the school's credibility to avoid problems. There are some schools do take advantage of foreign teachers, especially Asian teachers. There is a website that I'd like to recommend-http://www.teflwatch.org. This website gives facts about teaching issue in Thailand. Below are things to consider before you work in a school:

· How many teaching hours/credit will I teach?

· Will the school process my visa and work permit? (Effective this October 1,border run will end)

· Will they supply accommodation and health insurance?

· Will I receive a wage even it's summer or vacation?(Some schools consist of summer and vacation in the contract, but others don't)

If you are new to Thailand and new to teaching, be careful. Ask questions to your employer which you don't understand. If you will sign a contract, never sign it, if it's written in Pasa Thai. This is to avoid possible problems in the future. Your compact must be written in English, and please keep a copy of it for your time to come use.

Places to work in Thailand

In this section, I will just give a brief summary of separate schools/institutions in this country. I will group them into following: schools with Mep/Ep; schools without Mep/Ep or Thai regular Schools; Universities; International Schools

A. School with Mep/Ep (Mini English Program/English Program)

· This type of school is well funded. Most of the funds came from the government (if it's a government school) or commonly from the parents.

· The wage here is high. - Native speakers beginning wage is 30,000 baht a month and can reach up to 50,000 baht depending on the qualification of the teacher. Non native such as Asian teachers receives 15,000 baht a month up to 30,000 baht (the general rate) depending on the qualification of the teachers, too.

· Working hours is commonly 15-18 periods a week, but other schools are 18-22 periods a week.

· Benefits are also included:Bupa health Insurance, Thai health assurance etc;free accommodation or housing allowance; visa and work permit are also provided

· There are some Mep/Ep schools offers some subjects integrated in English such as: music, science, math, communal science, Pe etc

· There are lots of foreign teachers employed and some do supply Thai assistant teachers.

B. Schools without Mep/Ep or regular Thai Schools

· This type of school is very different correlate to other school with Mep/Ep.

· Native speakers receive 20,000 baht up to 30,000 baht a month (still negotiable) depending on the teachers' qualification.

· Asian teachers' receives 12,000 baht up to 20,000 baht a month depending on the qualification. (I know some schools do pay their Asian teacher/s with an estimate of less than 12,000 baht a month)

· Most schools do not pay their foreign trainer on summer or semester break.

· Getting a benefit is a big issue in the middle of the employer and the foreign teacher.

· Having a visa or a work permit is a bit slow and will cause a foreign trainer some stress and frustration. Reasons are the following: it's their first time to hire a foreign teacher; school or employer does not have any idea how to apply and process the visa and work permit of their foreign teacher.

· Only 1-3 foreign teachers are employed. No Thai Assistant.

C. Thai Universities

There are numerous universities in Thailand. The best universities in this country are the following: (not in order)

· Chulalongkorn University

· Thammasat University

· Chiangmai University

· Kasetsart University

· Khon Kaen University

· Prince of Songhkla University

· King's Mongkut develop of Tech North Bangkok

· King's Mongkut develop of Tech Ladkrabang

· Mahanakorn University of Technology

· Suranaree University of Technology

Salaries at government universities are different, correlate to incommunicable universities. Government universities pay their foreign teachers the general rate of 20,000 up to 30,000 per month depending on the qualification. Having an Ma degree or a PhD degree is an advantage. It is also possible to make extra good money. In my own experience, aside from my monthly wage that I receive, I do have an extra job after my school working hours. And it certainly helps.

Legal Issues and Visa

There are two types of foreign teachers in Thailand: A legal teacher and an illegal teacher. A legal trainer has a Non-immigrant visa, a work permit, and a trainer license (some schools). An illegal trainer has no Non-immigrant visa, a work permit, and a trainer license. And an illegal trainer is all the time doing the border run visa every month at the neighboring country. I had this taste doing the border run visa while I'm working in this country, and it's a bit scary. But this so called border hopping will influence many foreigners who are working in Thailand because of the new visa policy which has been efficient since October 1 2006.

In order for you to become a legal trainer you must do the following:

· You must derive a non-immigrant visa at any Thai consulate face Thailand.

· Thai Consulate at Penang is the option of many foreigners who wants to get a Non B. You will be given 3 months to stay in Thailand. If you are planning to apply for a Non B, you need to prepare the following documents: a. Valid letter from the school/director with a valid seal b.school compact c. 2 piece of two by two pictures d. School map e. School registration f. Copy of your passport, degree certificate, and transcript of records.

· Once you get your Non B you can now go to the Ministry of Labor to apply for a work permit. The documents that you need to bring are also the same of what I listed above along with the copy of your Non-B, health certificate, and the Form Wp 2 from the Ministry of Labor. The estimate is 750 baht for 3 months; 1500 baht for 6 months; 3000 baht for 1 year and someone else 100 baht for the application form. It will take 1 week commonly to process it.

· When the work permit is ready you can go to the Immigration group to increase your visa. The cost for a 1 year prolongation is 1900. Make sure you have a re-entry visa each time you leave the country. If not, your visa prolongation will be forfeited.

Thailand Women Are Unique

The world often sees the women of Thailand very differently than they in fact are. Much of Hollywood would love community to think of Thai women as these sexual beings that do nothing but submit to prostitution and other sexual acts regularly. The truth is however, that Thai women are quite conservative. In fact, their lucidity is something that is not only expected, but also required.

One thing that makes the women of Thailand so unique is the fact that they do take their lucidity seriously. When they go on dates, there is very tiny corporeal sense at all. Keeping hands is something that is seen as being intimate. They do not have pre-marital sex and are honored to be pure when they marry. This fact makes them quite enchanting on many levels. They are not the dirty prostitutes the world thinks they are. They are pure and spiritual.

Go To Thailand

In addition, the women of Thailand are very domesticated. They aren't well educated in most cases, however they do know how to keep a clean house. They are great at enchanting and cooking and will be sure their mate is completely happy. They see marriage as a way to stay out of the world of prostitution that draws so many Thai women in.

Thailand Women Are Unique

They are morally strong, which makes them incredibly enchanting to many people. They stand by what they feel, even if it means they must be poor or do without sure things. In fact, many women will live in poverty to keep their morals in tact, instead of lowering themselves to prostitution.

Tako From Thailand

Tako From Thailand

No, it's not tacos from Mexico and it's not octopus in Japanese. It's appetizing and refreshing tako from Thailand, and I've never had anything else quite like it. It starts out as a straightforward sufficient concept: tapioca with coconut milk, but tako is much more than the sum of its parts.

After having been to Thailand a amount of times and becoming a tako aficionado; I found myself settled into Hawaii for a combine of years. We used to always eat at the Vietnamese shops, which had great coffee and stew. I once saw tapioca and coconut milk at a delicatessen and became excited, reasoning I had found tako. But I hadn't; it was a sticky, gloppy mess, a pudding in other words. And exterior Thailand I haven't seen it since- not even in Thai restaurants.

The difference with tako is, for one, the coconut milk is thin and chilled with crushed ice. It is meant to be sipped on while eating the various and colorful and tasty morsels that go into tako. Tapioca in tako is molded into attractive shapes and brightly colored, green, red, and yellow. Bits of sticky rice are thrown in, as well as a few beans and pieces of water chestnuts. Other bits of tasty items, even corn, are added to make a appetizing and festive medley. Tako is truly a delicate magic bowl of childlike colors and shapes and tasty morsels. When done, the leftover coconut milk has also taken on the flavor of all the ingredients, and is delicious.

For a long time we heard the women exterior our guest house chanting, Tako, tako, standing in front of bags of odd bits of food. What is this tako? we thought. We're glad we tried it!
