Don't Retire To Thailand - 7 Very Good Reasons Why You Should Not Retire To Thailand!

Don't Retire To Thailand - 7 Very Good Reasons Why You Should Not Retire To Thailand!

Married to a Thai and longing to retire in Thailand for the spicy hot yummy food, white tropical beaches, sunshine and smiles? Before you rush in headlong, take a long look at these reasons for not retiring in Thailand.

1. Political Unrest In Thailand

Go To Thailand

Those who are considering retiring in Thailand need to take the current dire political situation into consideration. In 2006, a power struggle erupted in the middle of the Thai political parties. The "red shirts" and the "yellow shirts" are in bitter unlikeness about the country's future. Accusations of corruption have inspired corporeal confrontation in the middle of the two sides. The current political protests in Thailand are funded and guided from overseas by Thaksin, a old police officer who built up a telecoms empire before turning to politics and becoming prime clergyman in 2001.

Currently governed by the highly revered King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand, there is great concern lurking about the additional great political unrest that is startling after his death. Now at age 82, and not in good health, there is concern about who will take over the throne after his death. The law that forbids anything talking ill of the royal family and thereby protecting the dignity of a reigning sovereign King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand did not stop old Prime clergyman Thaksin Shinawatra speaking of a "shining" new age once the King's reign comes to an end. That does not bode well for the future of Thailand.

This political uncertainty could influence your future life in Thailand. It only takes a convert in the laws in Thailand to make it a wholly distinct place. Suppose they made the requirements for Thai visas more stringent, so that you found it difficult or impossible to get your non immigrant Thai visa? You could lose the right to live in Thailand and with it your retiring in Thailand plan.

2. The difficulty Of studying The Thai Language

On holiday in Thailand you maybe picked up a few Thai words and generally got by with very miniature knowledge of the Thai language. Of course, in case, granted you stick to the main holiday areas and resorts, you don't need to know Thai because the Thai citizen you deal with will speak adequate English for you to be able to get what you want.

But in resignation you maybe are not going to be living in the holiday resort areas - which are not only very expensive for daily living but which are becoming increasingly dangerous. Instead, like us and many citizen like us, you may be retiring 'up country' in predominantly Thai populated areas. In these circumstances you may be buying fresh food at the local Thai market, eating out at the roadside stalls, jumping on the back of the local bicycle taxis, and generally interacting with the indigenous Thais who are unlikely to speak English. This is where, without a good knowledge of the Thai language, life could be difficult or just uneasy for you.

3. You Will Have To Pay For Any curative Care That You May Need

If you enjoy free curative care in your home country, remember that you will lose this privilege when you retire to Thailand and you will end up paying your own curative bills in future. Perhaps you may think that you are in good condition and take the opening on that but think about the expanding treatments you may need as you get older or if you come to be seriously ill. As you come to be older your needs for curative care dramatically increase and whereas Perhaps at present you are entitled to curative care paid for by the State in your homeland, when you retire to Thailand the costs will come from your own pocket.

4. Visa Restrictions

There is no such thing as a "get it and forget it" visa for retiring Thailand. While Thai resignation visas are available, there are still restrictions, and you will have to description to the immigration office in Thailand periodically. The Thai forums are thick with questions from foreigners asking about Thai visa laws or restrictions or reporting problems they have faced. I am one of those citizen because although I once obtained a manifold journey one-year Non Immigrant kind "O" visa for Thailand within a few minutes at the Royal Thai Consulate in Birmingham, U.K. I was later refused the same kind of Thai visa with exactly the same paperwork at the Royal Thai Embassy in London!

As a generalism, it seems that distinct offices and officials issuing Thai visas around the world all have distinct interpretations of the qualifications to be granted a Thai visa. Some citizen have reported being refused a visa for spurious reasons when all their paperwork was in perfect order. Think what you would do if you were refused entry to the country where your resignation home and wife was!

5. High Taxation On Imported Goods

Those who have a visa to live in Thailand for greater than a year can also move household items to the country, but if the visa is granted for less, you must also take into catalogue the import duty taxes and value added tax. These total 27% of the value of your items, not along with the shipping costs. In theory, some entrants to Thailand are permitted to bring household effects into Thailand free of duty, but it doesn't work like that in custom even though I am Thai as I found out found out I tried to do it. Again, the Thai forums are filled with citizen who, agreeing to Thai regulations were supposed to be able to import personal effects tax-free, still ended up paying a lot to the customs officers!

6. High Cost Of Maintaining Your Home

If you keep your current home in your own country, there are huge expenses with maintaining two homes, one in Thailand and the other far away across the ocean. When renting out your home in your own country, you run the risk of damage, non-paying tenants and having to hire an branch that will keep your asset up. It is a good idea to keep your traditional home in case you ever go back home, so that you can have a customary place to get home to, or your retiring in Thailand plan fails for any reason.

7. Culture Shock

It is one thing to have a great time in Thailand on holiday but living there permanently is wholly different. While it may seem easy to adjust to the Thai culture, residents retiring in Thailand have to commit to setting aside long standing habits and it can be tiring. Unravelling a country's long standing culture can be a bit tedious for foreigners in the country.

In Conclusion

I hope that has not put you off the idea of retiring in Thailand. That was not my intention. If you have any doubts about committing yourself to a life of resignation in Thailand I would recommend that you try an extended vacation in Thailand before you ultimately commit yourself. If you are still willing to retire Thailand, then you will want to try an extended vacation. Try staying in the country for several months before deciding to set up shop permanently. It is good to do that than development the big mistake of retiring and then deciding it's not for you.

The Tiger King Of Ayutthaya In Thailand

Luang Sorasak is one of the Kings who ruled over Ayutthaya. The king ascended to the throne in 1703. The reign of King Luang Sorasak is carefully to be the gloomiest and darkest in the history of Ayutthaya.

Luang Sorasak succeeded the King Petraja. When the King was in deathbed he appointed his nephew Pichai Surin as his successor. Knowing this, Luang Sorasak got angry and forcibly took power and ascended to the throne, declaring himself the king. Thus, in 1703, a tyrannical, egotistical man crowned himself as the new King of Siam. The king had a title "The Tiger King". The title did not mean that he was noble or gracious. The title denoted the king's cruelty towards his subjects. It is said that the king was very interested in all sort of cruel games especially in kickboxing which was a violent feel sport during those days. Once he disguised himself as a common man and participated in a kickboxing competition where he challenged two men to fight with him. during the fight, he brutally kicked the men to death and won the match.

The King had two sons, the elder son Wang Nah was appointed as the viceroy and the younger was given the title Phra Buntun-Noi. A story has it that the king along with his sons and soldiers were chasing an elephant. However, the sons made a mistake and the elephant escaped. As a supervene the two sons were brutally punished.

The Tiger King was also infamous for his sexual exploits. If a girl dared to reject him, he would force himself on her, rape her and then kill her. A whole of dead bodies were usually removed from the palace.

Once again peace and dignity prevailed in Ayutthaya after the death of the Tiger King in 1709.

International Bangkok Flights, What To Expect When You First Fly Into Thailand?

Many people find themselves flying into Bangkok for the very first time and they are wondering what it is like. Bangkok receives million's tourists every year and is one of the busiest flight destinations in Asia with only Beijing, Tokyo and Hong Kong having more international flights into it than Bangkok in 2009.

Bangkok received over 40 million visitors in 2009 in their new Suvarnabhumi Airport, which opened for enterprise in 2006, 2007, taking over from the Don Muang international airport, which is still in operation as a regional internal Thailand airport, with all the international flights advent into the new airport Suvarnabhumi.

Go To Thailand

Customs at the Bangkok Airport is very busy. One of the things that you can do is to make sure that you have your immigration form filled out fully that they give you on the flight into Bangkok. When you are in the immigration line and you get up to the Thai immigration officer, make sure to stand behind the line until they request for retrial you forward, and that you have your passport and immigration form ready, and that you stand on the yellow footprints on the floor and look at the camera when they call you forward. You need remove any hat or sun glasses for the picture.

International Bangkok Flights, What To Expect When You First Fly Into Thailand?

After they stamp you into Thailand, you will head somewhere to the baggage claim, if you can remember the carousel great, but many times the flight crew doesn't know which carousel it will be. No problem, as right after you get out of the immigration, before the luggage carousels, there are large screens that will have your flight amount and which conveyor line your luggage will come out on. A good idea is if you have lots of gear to get a luggage cart right away which are provided free, usually you might have a 10 min wait at most till your bags come out.

Go To Thailand

Customs is usually pro forma, if you have nothing to enunciate they just wave you through. Sometimes they might have you put your luggage on an x-ray belt, but for most foreign tourists you will pass right through.

Now you will move into the part of the airport that is open to the public, this is where, if person is waiting for you they will be. Some Bangkok luxury hotels & resorts will pick you up at the airport and this is where they will stand with the signs with your name on it.

Access to and from the airport for most traveler is by metered taxi, which can be found on the lowest level. The average cost with the highway tolls works out to less than 300 baht for most locations inside the city proper. Late at night you can save a diminutive money by not taking the freeway, but for most times of the day it indeed is economy to pay the tolls, rather that get trapped in Bangkok's very sublime traffic jams, which you can stuck in as late as 10Pm more times than not. If you are new to Bangkok don't take a occasion and pay the tolls.

One of the things that you indeed need to remember is always insist on the meter being turned on before the taxi starts moving; a very bad sign is a driver that will not turn the meter on when you are at the taxi stand on the lowest level of the airport.

Some people also take limousines which are promoted inside the terminal by touts, legal and illegal, that offer a much more costly ride into the city. Buses are also available into the city they are economy but most people find the metered cabs to be a very good value as they take you right to your destination hotel or condo and for most first time visitors to Bangkok this would be recommended.

Have a great time in Bangkok!

To introduce Bangkok separately as it is the place where most visitors begin their journey in this country due to that Bangkok International Airport is the major advent spot from flights around the world. Bangkok is one of the most crowded cities in the world with lots of traffic congestion, large amount of population and high-rise buildings; yet, it is the city with faultless facilities, favorable transportation systems and large shopping malls and streets.

Finally for this best Thailand tour Guide is the southern region, the slimmest and longest area of Thailand. This region is the land in the middle of the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea so that beaches are the highlights of this area. Tourists are guaranteed to experience marvelous beaches, stunning gorgeous tropical islands and sparkling blue water. There is a Thai joke saying that there are 3 seasons in Thailand: hot, hotter and hottest. Normally, most Thailand tour guides would say that the most recommended season to come to Thailand is during November to February as it is the least hot period, yet, the sun still shines beautifully. March to May is considered too hot as it is the hottest period, which could be less tolerable for visitors especially westerners. And as the rain would then arrive during June to October, it is considered as too wet in the monsoon season of Thailand. However, this Best Thailand tour Guide would select to also suggest travelers to reconsider this wet season because this would be less crowded time to visit many attractions such as customary beaches, ancient cities or temples. The best thing is that during this time with occasional rains, travelers can pay for much less for air fares and accommodations. customary hotels can sacrifice their rates up to 50-60% so that visitors can enjoy excellent facilities at minimal expenses.

Beaches

Go To Thailand

The beaches of Thailand need no introduction. Used as the setting for hundreds of movies, they come in a variety of styles. The beaches of Phuket and Phi Phi fall along the lines of original beach resort areas like you might find in a place such as Cancun, Mexico or Tamarindo, Costa Rica. On the other end of the scale, you can find more rustic beach areas in places like the island of Ko Chang where you'll have a few beach bungalows, a join of bars and one or two stores. If you're seeing for a limited of both styles, just ask around.

Da North

Infatuated with the beach life, many population fail to head up country when in Thailand. This is a mistake as the north is the host to such locations as the city of Chang Mai, the Summer Palace of the King of Thailand and curious limited villages. For the outdoor enthusiasts, rafting, hiking and mountain biking are very favorite and widely available.

Prices

If you're on a budget, Thailand is a excellent tour destination. For some reason, flights to Thailand are particularly cheap with my modern flight on Korean Airlines running approximately 0 round trip. Once in country, your money will go a long, long way.

I think a note of caution is need at this point. Please beware. If you decree to take a trip to Thailand, you won't want to come back to your native country. You will, however, undoubtedly come back to Thailand!

tourist Traps to Beware of in Thailand

Thailand as many say is an for real beautiful country which attracts millions and millions of traveler per year to the main cities and surrounding islands. Originally earmarked as a rest and leisure destination for American Gis while and after active service; it has been officially a bonafide traveler destination since the 1980s.

From the busy bustling towns, cities and beach resorts like Bangkok, Chang Mai and Puckett to the petite known secluded secret gems and secret treasures Thailand is a hive of activity, tourism and sunshine. Well recovered after the devastation Tsunami that struck Thai land on Boxing Day of 2004 which originated from an earthquake deep in the Indian Ocean.

Go To Thailand

Thailand is well known for it's busy traveler destinations and it could be said that many of the tourists are grouped or stay within the confines of their resort or hotel. Rarely venturing past their resorts into the sometimes polarised Thai way of life and locations where the migrant and local workers live. Thailand has many things for traveler to sense and remember; however there are as with all foreign holiday destinations safe bet 'tourist traps' that those journeying to any destinations are wise to be aware of.

It is a general rule of thumb that if you want to sense the best of a country, whether that be food or pastimes that you go to the places the locals voyage to. It has been said on safe bet traveler describe sites that the predominant 'tuk tuks' open sided vehicles that ferry tourists from port to port are one such traveler trap. Potentially risky and open to all the noise and pollution from the rest of the traffic it has been recommend that you will never see a Thai local on a tuk tuk.

The 'man with the snake' is often a well analogised traveler trap often placing without regard or permission a large snake onto the shoulders of unassuming traveler and 'allowing' them to have their photo taken with it and then charging upwards of 350 baht if a traveler trap. Tourists are often advised to stay away from such habitancy and or politely decline but refrain from arguing over the price and retention personal security at the forefront of their minds.

Another traveler trap to be aware of is the additional charges that can be added on and turn a seemingly good deal into a nightmare. For instance the airport departure tax which is a necessity and id not included in the airfare can be 500 baht, without which you will be stuck. There can also be plenty additional charges in hotels so look out for charges when you have a guest in the hotel or you want to eat breakfast there they can soon add up to thousands of pounds.

Thailand is a vibrant, moving and cultured country which is a favourite holiday destination by many; just be aware of traveler traps and keep your wits about you!

Chatuchak store Of Thailand

Bangkok's Chatuchak store is a must-see. There is nothing like experiencing a store place spread across 35 acres of land with over 15,000 stall selling everything from Buddha statues to exotic pets and T-shirts.

Chatuchak store is settled right next to Chatuchak Park, which is at the northern end of Bangkok. The store is only open at the weekends and you should make sure you get there early, nearby 9.30 a.m. Or 10 a.m. At the latest. You will find out that by noon the store is buzzing with habitancy and you will get jostled quite a bit by the crowd. Make sure you keep a sharp eye on your wallet or purse otherwise you could end up losing it to the pickpockets in the marketplace.

Go To Thailand

An easy way to get to Chatuchak store is taking the Skytrain and you have to get off on the last stop on the Sukkhumvit line which is going north. The stop is Mo Chit and you will clearly see the numerous stall as the Skytrain pulls into the station. From the Skytrain station, the store is a 5-minute walk. Alternatively, you can take the subway and get off at Kampangphet. The entry of this Mrt subway hub is right in the middle of the market.

On this day, children are allowed to enter any government office together with those which are prohibited to visitors on the lowly days. Many entertainment parks in Thailand allow children to enjoy themselves with a minimum fee and at times, they allow children to enter for free on Children's Day. Every year the King, the supreme Patriarch of Thailand, and the Prime clergyman of Thailand give speeches addressing the children.

On Children's Day, the Bangkok Bank in Thailand offers stationary to the children. Whenever a child enters the bank on Children's Day, he / she is given pens, pencils, and books. This is looked upon as a community service. The bank also takes this occasion to educate children about recovery money and the benefits it can reap.

Bangkok Red Light District Guide - Where to Go and Where to Stay

Bangkok Thailand has the craziest red light districts in the whole of Southeast Asia. Millions of visitors from all over the world have experienced the people, sights and sounds that permeate throughout Bangkok. It's an indescribable feeling and you'll only know what I'm talking about as soon as your feet hits the surface pavement of the airport.

It's inevitable that most visitors who come to Bangkok are male. But because of the Thai people's laid back sensibilities they have no problems at all with gay or lesbian tourist who are now enjoying Bangkok's red light districts in droves.

Go To Thailand

The city of Bangkok has three inevitable red light districts settled relatively close to each other. These establishments sprang up and rapidly became popular while the early 1970's towards the end of the Vietnam war.

Bangkok Red Light District Guide - Where to Go and Where to Stay

The first and oldest red light district is found on the Sois (or "Street" to us foreigners) of Patpong 1 and Patpong 2. Patpong 1 being the more popular Soi because that's also where you find the Night Market. Personally if you find something you have to have then business agreement hard. Otherwise I'd save my money and shop at Chatuchak Weekend Market. Stuff sold at Patpong's Night store are just way expensive. Surrounding the Night store are the infamous go-go bars and ping pong sex shows that make Patpong so famous. The best hotels to stay in this area are the Montien Hotel, Silom Serene, Bally's Suite Silom and Siam patrimony Suites. None of these hotels are guest amiable however.

Go To Thailand

The next two red light districts are found running straight through Sukhumvit road. The names are Nana and Soi Cowboy. Nana intersects Sukhumvit road and after 7pm you'll find hordes of freelance prostitutes gathering surface the Nana Hotel parking lot at the entrance of Nana Entertainment Plaza. Nep is a 3 story building filled with the delights of sex and booze. without fail a must visit.

Soi Cowboy is the smallest red light district but it packs a punch with establishments such as Long Bar and Rawhide. Those two go-go bars have been nearby for a while and still going strong.

Now most tourist who travel to Bangkok will most likely plan on bringing a companion back to their rooms. If that's you, then you should book a hotel that is "Guest amiable Hotel". You may have heard of other terms such as girl amiable or no joiner fee hotels. Because if you don't stay in a guest amiable hotel, you will be expensed a minimum of 500Thb joiner fee by hotel management.

The majority of guest amiable hotels are found in Sukhumvit, conveniently between the red light districts of Nana and Soi Cowboy. Currently there are none in the Patpong area. However, taxis are cheap, so taking one back to your guest amiable hotel in Sukhumvit is without fail economy than paying the 500Thb joiner fee.
